Java Software
For this website to function correctly you will need to have a software package called Java, not only installed on your computer, but also enabled.
Java is an application that can be obtained totally free of charge from this website. It will not harm your computer, but is a vital mechanism for making your use of this website all that it should be. For example, if the content of this help page you are currently reading does display properly this is a symptom of either not having Javca installed, or you have an outdated version.
How do You Know if You have Java Installed on Your Computer?
For the purpose of this help page we are going to use Internet Explorer 8 to demonstrate the process about to be explained. If you are using a different Internet browser the following instructions may not apply to your system and you may have to refer to your browser help file for guidance.
Click Here if you are using FireFox
The first thing to do is open Internet Explorer 8. From the top bar of your window, select Tools from the drop down menu system, and then click on Internet Options, which is right at the bottom of the Tools menu.

The next step is to click on the tab at the top of the newly opened window, which is labelled, Advanced. You should now see a list, as shown in the image below.
Scroll through the list until you find Java listed and make sure there is a tick in the box to show it has been activated. If you have an older version of Internet Explorer than version 8, even if Java is installed, it may not be listed under the Advanced tab.

If you do not see Java listed, regardless as to which Internet browser you are using, you can make sure you are equipped with the application by going through the download and installation procedure.
By clicking on this Download Link the Java installation programme will first check if you have the software already installed, and if so, which version you have. If you have the current version, the installation programme will tell you and provide you with an option to quit. If you do not have a current version, or you don’t have the software installed at all, you will be given the opportunity to install it.
FireFox Users
If you are using Mozilla Firefox instead of Microsoft Internet Explorer please use the following instructions to check you have Javascript enabled.
From within the Firefox browser screen, click on Tools at the top left of the window.

You should now be presented with the following window

Make sure there is a tick in the box adjacent to the label, Enable JavaScript
Active X Controls
So as to use the full functionality of this web site you will need to enable Active X Controls.
The chances are your browser will not show any alerts as you browse, but if it does this will most likely be in the form of a narrow yellow bar appearing at the top of the web page window, inscribed with the words, To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this web page from running scripts or Active X controls that could access your computer. You will then be invited to click on the bar for options.
One of the options you will be given will be that of to allow blocked content. This web site is a safe environment and does not implant harmful components onto your computer. Therefore, you may click on the option to, Allow Blocked Content.

Website Navigation
Unless you have clicked on a link found published upon another web site, and that link has taken you to a specific topic page, your first arrival point at the Mini Motoring web site should be the home page.
Obviously, this website has more than one page and to navigate between those pages you will need to click on what are known as Hyperlinks.
Hyperlinks take the form of either text links or linked pictures. The text hyperlinks on this website are presented in underlined font and will turn orange in colour as you pass the mouse cursor over them. Some sections of bold text are information links and as you pass your mouse cursor over them you will see an information flag that will tell you more about that topic.
The main concentration of text hyperlinks will be found within the site menu, which appears in the left margin of all main pages of the site. There is also a number of links at the foot of the main mages, and you will have clicked on one of these to access this help page.
Text hyperlinks will often appear within the body of the pages and can link you to either a page within the Mini Motoring web site or to a web page upon a third–party web site.
If you click on a link that takes you to a third–party site, the page will open in a new window, or pop–up window, as it is called. This is designed so you do not actually leave this site. There will be more about pop–up windows later on this page. Some of the longer pages will carry a text hyperlink at the bottom of the page that when clicked upon will immediately transport you back to the top.
Hyperlinks that take the form of images can either be static images or what are known as rollover, or mouseover images.
Mouseover images will change in colour or appearance as you pass your mouse cursor over the live area, whereas for static hyperlink images you will have to watch for a change to take place with your mouse cursor itself. Normally, the mouse cursor takes the form of a small arrow, but will change to a hand shape with a pointing finger when coming into contact with a linked image.
A good example of a linked image is that of the company logo, which appears at the top of every main web site page. When web site building protocols are followed correctly, the company or organisation logo should always be set up as a live link back to the home page of the site. Therefore, wherever you are within the site, you can easily navigate back to the home page by this means.
Another form of navigation, other than the site main menu system, is that of what is known as a breadcrumb trail. This you will see at the top and bottom of the page and consists of a series of text hyperlinks presented in linear form. These provide a form of map that indicates how deep into the site you are and which pages you have passed through to get to the one you are viewing. You can click on any part of the breadcrumb trail to get to any of the pages listed within it.

Pop–Up Windows
Pop–up windows are web pages that open over the top of a currently viewed page and can take on two forms. There is the full–size pop–up page and the smaller version, both of which, when closed, will leave you at the page from which you accessed the pop–up page. The page you are viewing now is a small sized pop–up page.
The behaviour and size of pop–up pages is controlled by Java script, which is why it is important that you have Java both installed as well as activated in your Internet browser.
To close the Pop–Up page, and continue viewing the main site pages, click on the ‘Close Window’ label, or upon the ‘X’ in the top right hand corner of this page.
A great deal of effort has been applied to building the Mini Motoring web site in such a manner as to make it easy to navigate and to be as user friendly as possible. However, if you need additional help and guidance, please use the contact information as provided by the Make Contact Page to contact the site webmaster.
